Egg: The striking feature of this little egg, is the large black blotch of pigment over the anus in the developing embryo. There is a ring of yellow pigment on the oil globule, and on the nose, eyes and mid-tail (A). Incubation is about 24 hours.
Larva: The pigment distribution of the late embryo in the egg, is retained in the 1-day larva (B), and to a large extent, even in the 3-day larva (C), but has almost disappeared by day 5 (D). B: 1 day, C: 3 days, D: 5 days (23-24°C).
Insufficient eggs have been obtained, to attempt rearing. No DNA barcode sequences are currently available. Almost certainly an ambassid.
This egg was not common in the DHM samples, but showed a spring to early summer spawning pattern (green graph), not contradicted by the Park Rynie data (blue graph), where it has only been seen on 5 occasions, the last being June 2008.
